Marble is a material we imagine to be massive, heavy, and immutable. At StoneLeaf, however, we have chosen to give it an entirely different form.
For 12 years, we have been developing unique expertise around natural stone veneer. A process that now allows us to transform certain marbles into a thin, flexible sheet, while preserving their veining, their nuances, and the full richness of their material.
FROM STONE TO SHEET
Everything begins with the selection of a marble block.
The surface of the stone is first prepared to obtain a base perfectly suited to the process. A fiberglass backing is then applied to the marble, before being covered with several layers of resin.
Once everything is perfectly set, comes the step that gives the StoneLeaf process its full meaning: the extraction.
The sheet is manually peeled from the block. The natural tensile force allows it to take with it a thin layer of stone, which remains fixed to the substrate.
The result is surprising: a genuine marble sheet about 2 mm thick, flexible and lightweight, which retains the veining and natural characteristics of the block from which it originated.
A MATERIAL THAT CHANGES DIMENSION
By transforming marble into a sheet, we offer it new possibilities.
Its thinness and flexibility allow it to be integrated into surfaces and shapes that would be difficult to achieve with a traditional marble slab.
And the material can reveal yet another facet when crafted in a translucent version.
Depending on the resin used, some marble sheets can let light pass through. Once backlit, the stone reveals its veins and shades in an entirely new way.
The marble doesn't change. It is our way of working with it that allows it to reveal itself differently!
